Description
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Jewell pose for this photograph on the west end of the highway span of the I Street Bridge in 1912. The lower span of the bridge was operated by the Southern Pacific Railroad. As of 1912, the bridge's draw span was the heaviest ever built, weighing some 3, 100 tons. It required seven electric motors to be drawn. In the background is east side of the river and Sacramento's waterfront.
