Description: Biography/History: Lori Condinus has worked for twenty years as a private branch exchange operator at the Anaheim Hilton Towers Hotel. She played a leadership role in HERE Local 681 and in its transition to an activist organizing culture. Lori helped develop the union’s diversity program and mentors African Americans who want to enter the industry. She is a member of UNITE HERE Local 11’s executive board.
Scope/Content: Interview Contents: Childhood — Role as a shop steward and leader in Local 681 — Experience as a Black woman in the hospitality industry and the labor movement — Work with Local 681 — Local’s transition to active organizing under the leadership of Ada Briceño — UNITE HERE campaigns in Orange County and Black worker “boot camps” — Status of Black workers in the hospitality industry — Vision for the future of the union and the industry.
