Exterior view of the Eduardo Poyorena, Sr. Adobe, located on the former Rancho Santa Gertrudis in Downey.; According to some accounts, Eduardo Sr., sold the rancho to John Gately Downey to start his city. The title of trust indicates that Downey purchased a parcel of land from Eduardo Poyorena Sr. and lived in the adobe for a short time. In 1892, General Peter Swaine purchased the adobe. Swaine's grandson, Wallace Wiggins, remodeled the adobe increasing its size.
