Photograph caption dated May 22, 1963 reads, "Maj. William Sinnott, Van Nuys High School ROTC instructor, receives a Bronze Star for service performed as an adviser in Viet Nam during 1962. Pinning the medal on Maj. Sinnott is Col. John Beck, from San Francisco, while Lt. Col. Bruce Reid, also from San Francisco, watches. Maj. Sinnott received the medal Tuesday in ceremonies before his ROTC class on the Van Nuys High football field. While in Viet Nam, Maj. Sinnott was instrumental in the development of helicopter tactics which are now in widespread use. In Viet Nam as an adviser, he also took part in more than 60 missions. He had previously been awarded four Bronze Stars--three in World War II and one in Korea. Maj. Sinnott lives in Granada Hills with his family."
