Description
Bicyclists at opening of Guadalupe Freeway. Their ride, led by San Jose City Manager A. P. (Dutch) Hamann (in sweater), was a 5-mile round trip from Moorpark Avenue to Saratoga Avenue. The press release from the San Jose Recreation Department reads, "A bicycle tour of the first 2.2 mile portion of the Guadalupe Freeway south of Bayshore Freeway, sponsored by the City of San Jose, will be held on Sunday, May 17, commencing at 2:30 p.m. City Manager, A. P. Hamann, will lead the way again, starting at the assembly point at Mission Street and Guadalupe Freeway just south of the County Juvenile Hall. All riders will be welcome, however youngsters must be accompanied by a parent."
