Photograph caption dated December 10, 1963 reads, "Birmingham High halfback Mike McConahey stretches for an extra yard in last week's semifinal city playoff game against Gardena. McConahey, the Braves' chief threat on the ground, scored twice against Gardena on a 39-yard run. He also carried 44 yards another play. McConahey's performance Saturday against Los Angeles High at East Los Angeles College could be the difference between a city championship or second place for the powerful Braves."
