Description
Shown is circa 1912, the Hotel Trow at 508 1/2 K Street was one of at least six hotels located on K Street between the Sacramento River and Tenth Street during the early decades of last century. Owned by Mrs. Anna Trow, the hotel operated under that name from 1912 to 1920, the title changing to the Hotel Coloma in 1921. The Hotel Trow advertised reasonable rates for their 144 rooms and offered a "First Class Cafe & Grill" in Thomas' Cafe at 514 K. Philip Bruckner operated as a furrier at 508 K Street from 1913 through 1917, the period when this postcard was first published. The building housed a variety of stores and restaurants over the years, but the Hotel Coloma was a steady tenant until the end came in 1962 in the form of redevelopment.
