Bill O'Brien started his small business making wooden toys for pets in 1951 after retiring from steel industry and relocating to California from Massachusetts. Delrego Products Co. employeed four workers besides O'Brien.
Photograph caption dated September 2, 1959 reads, "Who's Dumbbell? -- Mac the Macaw, left, was once 9-ounce weakling who was always bullied around by bigger birds, but since exercising with one-ounce dumbbells manufactured by Bill O'Brien he can hold his own with strongest."
