Description
Photograph of four men examining a Northrop T-38 outside a hangar, ca.1960. At center, a large U.S. Air Force jet is visible with four men examining the exterior and interior. All the men wear identical lightly-colored jumpsuits. One man is seen placing is right hand over the darkly-colored beak of the plane. Two other men stand with a hand on the tip of each wing. The final man can be seen sitting within the frontal cockpit with the glass covering ajar. Two star-shaped emblems are visible along the pointed body of the plane and wide wing. In the background to the left, the interior of the hangar is visible showing several more men and equipment. A description on the back of the photoprint reads: "Northrop Aircrafts T-38. Hawthorne, California. Awaiting delivery of engines. Weight: 11,000 pounds. This aircraft combines century series fighter performance with simplicity to shrink costs of production and operation. Revolutionary jet engines newly developed by General Electric contain enormous power in a small 'package' to give the T-38 its outstanding performance".
