Trucks take mud from the floor of Big Tujunga Reservoir to the mile-long conveyor belt, right. It is picked up at the other end of the belt by more trucks and taken to a rapidly-growing hill, left, composed entirely of reservoir sediment. The reservoir is located in the mountains north of Altadena, in the Angeles National Forest.
