Description
Image of a central image of eight musicians, in blackface, sitting in a row and playing musical instruments including banjoes, a violin, a guitar, and a tambourine, surrounded by vignettes of the Buckley Serenaders consisting of images of their performances in theaters before full audiences, captioned "As they appeared at the Drury Lane, London," "As they appeared in Mexico," an image of the troupe traveling through the California wilderness on horseback captioned, "As they Appeared in California," head-and-shoulders portraits of James Buckley, Richard Buckley, George Buckley, and Frederick Buckley in formal dress, and four smaller vignettes of the minstrels performing in costume; decorated with an ornate floral borders with musical instruments and two black cherubs.
Probable date based on handwritten note in bottom margin of copy held by the Library of Congress: "519, Deposited in the Clerk's Office, S. Dist., N.Y., Aug. 15, 1853." "... Scotland, Wales, Mexico, California & Principal / cities of the United States."--text, continuation of title, bottom center right.
