Description
Photograph of the ruins of Ypres, Belgium, a city in which three battles were fought during World War I, ca.1915. The remains of a large brick building are at left. Several tall archways lead to roofless rooms in the building, which may have been a church. A massive hole in the wall of the building at right reveals a bleak landscape devoid of any other buildings. The ground is covered in rocky rubble and a few leafless trees are visible.
