Description
In March 1981, an officer of the Salvadoran National Guard and his soldiers pose for a photograph in their uniforms and holding their Heckler & Koch G3 battle rifles of West German origin. The officer was trained by Americans in Panama. They are in the streets of Chalatenango. Their embroided uniform badges reads "Honor is Our Emblem." The United Nations Truth Commission for El Salvador found in 1993 that the Salvadoran National Guard committed grave crimes against humanity, including massacres, tortures, and extrajudicial assassinations in the 1980s.
