Photograph article dated August 27, 1962 partially reads, "A celebration is planned for Friday, when the 146th Air Transport Wing, Van Nuys, becomes 'defederalized' and returns to state control. Joining Gov. Edmund G. Brown for 10 a.m. inactivation ceremonies at the Van Nuys Air Base will be national, state and military officials. The wing's 1,400 airman will assemble for the last time and will salute the dignitaries in a full-dress parade. Following the ceremonies, more than 1,100 officers and men of the 146th will return to Air National Guard standing." A2C William Chapman guards Stratofreighter on 24-hour alert at Van Nuys base.
