Photograph was edited for publication purposes.; Photograph was also used for an article dated April 2, 1965. On April 1, 1965, Neal's wife, Gale Bennett, was shot with a .45 caliber gun. The next day, Neal's attorney summoned police, who discovered the women's body on the couch partially covered by a blanket with a gunshot wound in the back of her head. Neal surrendered to police on April 3 and was indicted on one charge of murder on April 10. A jury convicted Neal of involuntary manslaughter on November 18, 1965 and about a month later, he was sentenced to one-to-fifteen years in prison. On December 6, 1971, he was released on parole and returned to working as a landscaper and gardener.
