Description
The Crippled Children's Society was founded in 1926 by the Los Angeles Rotary Club, primarily to serve the needs of children affected with polio. The society established several rehabilitation centers for children throughout Los Angeles to help children with all kinds of disabilities. In 2000, the name was changed to Ability First.
Photograph caption dated August 17, 1955 reads "Helen Brooks, 9, of Reseda, learns weavers' craft from Dorothea Hulse, at new Ranch (sic) del Valle recreation center for handicapped children in Canoga Park, supported by Crippled Children's Society of Los Angeles County."; See images #00143246 through #00143248 for all photos in this series.
