"The Gripsholm Exchanges: A Concise Report on the Exchange of Hostages during World War II between the United States and Japan as it relates to Japanese Americans" is a manuscript on the diplomatic exchanges between the United States and Japan during 1942-1943. The table of contents includes Introduction, Diplomatic Negotiations, The Gripsholm and Other Ships Used, First Exchange, Second Exchange, Redress, Closing Comments, and About the Author. There are also three appendices: Passenger List, First Exchange; Passenger List, Second Exchange; Department of Justice Redress Guidelines for Minors; Department of Justice documents Concerning Redress for those who Boarded the Gripsholm for the Exchange with Japan but disembarked at Singapore; and Personal Accounts. The last appendix, Personal Accounts, has seven personal accounts from passengers on the S.S. Gripsholm. The Gripsholm Exchange Manuscript includes a memoir titled, "The Gripsholm Exchanges: A Short Concise Report on the Exchanges of the Hostages during WWII between the United States and Japan as it relates to Japanese Americans." The memoir is about the hostage exchanges between July 1942 and August 1943 in Lourenco Marques, Mozambique, and Mormugao, India. Atushi Archie Miyamoto, the author, was a child passenger on the second exchange aboard the Swedish liner, S.S. Gripsholm, used as a repatriation ship between nations at war.
