Description
Photo of gasoline storage cylinders which exploded during a fire at the Standard Oil refinery in El Segundo. A gasoline treating plant was destroyed, which had been burning for 25 minutes before the explosion. The caption reads, "Earth-rocking blast rips El Segundo oil plant...Bulging ball of fire bursts skyward in predawn darkness, lights sky for 10 miles. 13 men suffer injuries after explosion threw oil tank top quarter of mile." Photograph dated: April 24, 1948.
