Description
This striking photo shows the vast crowd listening to Wagner's opera, "Die Walkure," which opened the Bowl season. It marked the first time in history that an opera had opened the Symphonies Under the Stars season, and the throng thrilled to the beauty and impressiveness of Wagner's great music drama in a natural setting. The listeners cheered the Valkyrie scenes. Photograph dated July 13, 1938.
