Photograph caption dated November 1, 1938 reads, "Sally Rand, who made fans and bubbles and talcum powder pay her fortune, is shown phoning a friend during a court recess while she waited to take the stand at her trial on battery charges. Hazel Drain and C. R. Stanford charge that Sally bit and scratched them when she saw Stanford taking photos of her dances."
