Description
Pictured in 1935 is the Libby, McNeill and Libby cannery in Locke, California, located just less than a mile north of the town. In the foreground is the southernmost portion of Snodgrass Slough. The long buildings, just on the banks of the slough are living quarters for workers. Behind them, and adorned with signage, is the main cannery building with sorting tables, a cooling room, a syrup room, and a tomato room. The plant operated its own school for the children of workers. In addition to tomatoes, the cannery processed asparagus. Just beyond the plant, and to the west, is the Sacramento River.
