Description
Mrs. Nanette Marcus as "Loretta of the Pearls" on May 20, 1932, in a pageant presented by the California Women of the Golden West. Legend relates she adored pearls and wanted more of them than anyone else, so a swain stole pearls from the Madonna in a little church in Carmel. He was pursued, and Loretta jumped with him from a cliff into the sea, in one version, and in another she discarded the pearls as a sin when he was jailed.
