Text: A monastic residential complex of Abhayagiriya also known as Pirivena, Prasada or Arama consists of a principal residential unit with small associated residential units at the four corners, water closets and urinals. Sometimes a hot water bath house and a small pond are included. This is one of the moonstones in Sri Lanka, which are famous to be exceptionally artistic. World being on fire is signified by the palapeti, the beings going through Samsara by the quadrupeds, the craving by the festoons, pious by the swans, the attenuation of craving by the small festoons and the lotus by enlightenment are the main themes of this moonstone. See the Glossary for a fuller description of the symbolism. It belongs to the period between 7-8 centuries AD.
