Description
Introduction: In class we applied molecular orbital theory to a few simple examples with the goal of understanding the nature of the chemical bond. The qualitative approach is complemented by numerical calculations and the interpretation of these results. These calculations are normally difficult and require sophisticated programs. However, they are relatively straightforward in the case of the simplest molecule, the H2+ one-electron molecular ion. Three pages with four questions and explinations.
