Description
Photograph caption dated February 27, 1986 reads, "Paramedics carry one of 12 injured passengers from a bus that was rammed from behind at Central and Slauson avenues by a car traveling at an estimated 90 mph yesterday. None of the riders was seriously hurt on the crowded RTD No. 53 bus, which had halted at a stop. But the driver of the car, Norman Lewis, 38, of Lynwood, and his passenger, Eddie Wright, 37, of Los Angeles, were taken to Daniel Freeman Hospital in critical condition. Police said charges of drunken driving would be filed against Lewis, who was removed from the vehicle with a "jaws of life" device. Trains on nearby railroad tracks were delayed till wreckage was cleared."
