This photograph is contained in one of two volumes by Dobbin titled "Album of San Francisco."
Text written under photo: "Market Street looking east from 5th Street before automobiles or four railroad tracks." Written to left, with arrow: "St. Anne's Building." Written at top, with arrows: "Powell & Market St. Ruins Baldwin Hotel" and "Phelan Building." Behind the St. Anne's Building the white City of Paris can be seen, whose sign appears to have been retouched. The Chronicle Building with its clock tower is visible on the left side of Market. The Ferry Building is at the end of Market, the Call Building and Emporium are visible on the right side. The Baldwin Hotel has not been completely taken down yet, dating the photo at early 1899.
