Photograph caption dated November 20, 1962 reads "Michael P. McDermott, 17-year-old Van Nuys High School senior, has been appointed 'All City ROTC Colonel' for the Los Angeles City Schools' 1,958 student cadet corps members. He won the title in compteition with cadet leaders from 13 other district high schools. The youth is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward McDermott, Van Nuys."
