Marjorie Amalia Aquilino was born December 12, 1914 to parents Leonard and Della Aquilino. Marjorie's family were long-time Angelenos dating back several generations. Her great-grandfather Stephen Lagomarsino opened the first dairy in LA called the Calla Lily. The family continued to operate a cattle and dairy business in Chavez Ravine until 1967, when they were forced to sell their land. Marjorie's grandfather Joseph planted the first trees in Elysian Park. Marjorie went on to become a beloved principal in several elementary schools in LAUSD before retiring in 1983. She died at the age of 102 on January 30, 2017. A scholarship was established in her honor called the Marjorie Aquilino Memorial Scholarship to assist undergraduate students at UCLA.
