Description
Fish-shaped lapel pin was made in Taxco Mexico by Antonio Castillo, whose family silversmithing shop invented the technique of "piedra negra" in the 1950s, of which this piece is an example. In this technique, the stone (usually onyx) was inlaid with silver and other stones, rather than the silver being inlaid with the stone. This piece shows silver, gold, and turquoise inlaid in a black stone that is probably not onyx.
