Description
1989-1242. In: [Scenes of Sacramento] [manuscript] / Eugene Walter Hepting. [Sacramento, Calif. : E. Hepting, 1938?], Vol. C, leaf 25. View of a Neoclassical building which stands on a corner; the short side is on the left and on the right the long side; in the front are two fluted Doric columns with a set of pillasters on the sides; three entrances are on this side and a sign above "American Trust Company" at top; a balustrade surrounds the roof; on the long side are fluted Doric columns separating short windows below and long tall windows above; at the corner is a couple of flat pillasters; between the balustrade at roof level and the columns is an entablature which runs around the building with metopes at regular intervals. Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento. "Second bank bldg. of the D.O. Mills, erected about 1865. They merged with the Cal. National Bank in 1927 which closed its doors, Jan 21st, 1933. Oldest and largest of the old banks in the early '50's, D.O. Mills had another bank at Columbia, Calif. .the Sacramento Bank was known as 'The National Gold Bank of D.O. Mills.'"
