Reprint of a photograph included on page 140 of "Electronics in the West." The caption of this photograph in the book reads,"A page from Russell Varian's notebook during the period when he and Hansen were designing the klystron. Their tube was one of the firsty practical answers to the need for energy and microwave frequencies. An inventor's notebook provides important evidence in establishing the date of a new idea when there are similar inventions by others."
