A cue of voters is pictured casting their ballots at a downtown hotel on August 25, 1936, one of the 4295 precincts where Los Angeles County voters voted in a primary election. Although voting was light in the early part of the day, a 50 per cent vote, or 650,000 ballots, was forecast for the day's total. Citizens were choosing a district attorney, supervisors, 15 superior court judges, and numerous party candidates for assembly and congressional offices, as well as party committeemen.
