Shades of L.A. is an archive of photographs representing the contemporary and historic diversity of families in Los Angeles. Images were chosen from family albums and include daily life, social organizations, work, personal and holiday celebrations, and migration and immigration activities. Title supplied by cataloger.; Image is a reproduction. Ansi Elagoz’s parents were both born in Turkey and spent a year in the U.S. as foreign exchange students. Her mother was an exchange student in Nebraska in 1966, as was her father in Philadelphia in 1965. They returned to Turkey and met while pursuing their university studies in Ankara. They settled in Izmir, Turkey, where Ansi was born in 1976. She was a high school exchange student in Italy in 1988 and studied film at UCLA, graduating in 1993. She returned to Turkey and became a film producer in Istanbul. Enis Elagoz and Sitare Karagozoglu as students attending Orta Dogu Teknik University in Ankara after returning to Turkey from the United States and before their marriage.
