Photograph was edited for publication purposes The Wayside Honor Rancho was renamed The Peter J. Pitchess Detention Center in 1983. Photograph caption dated November 25, 1955 reads "Vast layout. More than 100 separate buildings make up this over-all view of Wayside Honor Rancho from hilltop overlooking tree covered section. Administration buildings, housing maximum security units, are shown in this view. Swimming pool at bottom was made possible by donations from employes (sic) of the sheriff's department. Farm, near Castaic, is located on 3,000 self-supporting acres of rolling, fertile hills, has grown from barn and shed since establishment in 1938." The article partially reads "It's the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Wayside Honor Rancho at Castaic, embracing approximately 3,000 acres of rolling, fertile hills that not only produce game birds, fruit, alfalfa and blue ribbon livestock, but also oil."; See images #00134971 through #00134977 for all photos in this series.
