Image of an eye-level view of a fountain monument commemorating American Independence and tiered with cannons, statues of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, American Revolutionary War generals and soldiers, and images of United States presidents, with George Washington on a horse atop the monument; description printed in margin in English and German.
"No Photograph allowed to be taken."--text, lower left in stone. "Entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1873, by C. Bathgate, in the Office of the Librarian of Congress at Wash. Also a Patent Right to be Applied for."--text, bottom left margin. "Height Upward of 50 Feet."--text, bottom centered. "Strobridge & Co. Lith. Cincinnati."--text, bottom right margin. "To be in the rear, a display of Naval Officers, viz: John Paul Jones, Silas Deane, DeGrasse and Admiral Hopkins. The Battle and Surrender of Yorktown, unfolding the first Union Flag and Evacuation of New York. The busts of the other General of that period and those of 1812."--text, bottom margin. "The thirteen Steps and Pillars to co-operate in number with the thirteen united Colonies."--text, bottom center margin.
