A speaker and other officials stand on a platform at a public ceremony for the 1928 Pacific Southwest Exposition being built on the waterfront in Long Beach. A photographer documents the event on a platform, right. Spectators stand by their wooden, folding chairs around the platform. The arched, domed entrance to the Exposition has been framed and awaits completion. Sailing ships are anchored closed to shore. The Exposition was launched to commemorate the landing of the Spanish padres and the founding of California. The Exposition buildings, designed by architect Hugh R.
