Photograph caption dated September 2, 1957 reads, "Pirnie, shown winning a mile and a sixteenth event at Del Mar last month, attempted to carry his speed out to a mile and one-eighth in the $30,000 added Del Mar Handicap at the seaside course today. Pirnie faced such rugged stakes stars as How Now, Eddie Schmidt and Noredski in the rich fixture."
