Description
Shown at the southwest corner of Eighth and J Streets in 1920 is the eight-story People’s Savings Bank. The structure was built in 1911 by the Thompson-Sterrett Company. Building tenants included as follows: New York Life Insurance Company, B.N. Scribner Insurance Company, White, Miller, Needham, and Haber, Attorneys at Law, Dr. H.J. Davis, Dr. W.A. Beattie, R.W. McCluskey, and A.W. Norris Building Construction. Also visible is part of the painted sign for Farmer's and Mechanics Bank, located two addresses to the right of the frame at 1012 Eighth Street. The building would later come to house the Bank of Italy, and then Bank of America.
