Exterior view of the fourth building to house the San Pedro Banch Library. This 6,000 sq. ft. structure, designed by San Pedro architect James H. Friend, cost $125,000 to build and furnish, and was the first branch to be built after a ten year break in city library construction. Near the center of the image, on the upper right side of the building, is a mural that depicts the San Pedro Harbor as it appeared in 1850. Patrons, of various ages are shown standing near the entrance. This image was reproduced on Page 27 of the April 1951 issue of Public Libraries. The caption that accompanies the image in the publication calls attention to the "window arrangement, display, planting, and 'built-in' awnings".
