Description
A promotional brochure for Hotel El Dorado, a multi-million dollar hotel on a manmade lake north of what is now the Capital City Freeway. Construction began in June of 1957 with 260 rooms planned and contained what was said to be the longest glue-laminated beam used in the construction of a hotel at that time. The size of the 113 foot beam necessitated a special railroad car to transport it from the manufacturer in Bellingham, Washington. Hotel El Dorado opened in January of 1958 and its opening gala drew 5,000 guests. The hotel had multiple event halls which hosted charity functions, beauty pageants. Despite its auspicious beginnings, by 1969 the Hotel El Dorado was bankrupt and signed over to Manufacturers Life Insurance Company of Toronto, Canada, which reopened it as the Woodlake Inn.
