Description
Lee de Forest scrapbook of personal mementos, correspondence, clippings and souvenirs beginning with his birth and early education, through his years at Yale University and work with wireless telegraph. Family mementos include a list of de Forest family births and deaths, pages devoted to Harriot Stanton de Forest's birth in 1909 and Henry Swift De Forest's death in 1896, family correspondence, and news clippings about Nora Stanton Blatch and Mary Mayo. Educational material from Mount Hermon, Talladega and Yale includes multiple photographs, sketches, progress reports, tickets to Yale-Harvard and Yale-Princeton events, Class Day programs, commencement programs, alumni event ephemera, and news clippings. Commencement program and clippings from June 1919 document de Forest's honorary Doctor of Science degree from Syracuse University. de Forest's military discharge papers for his service in the Spanish-American war are also included. The scrapbook also includes American De Forest Wireless Telegraph Co. and De Forest Wireless Telegraph Co. correspondence, photographs and corporate material. Significant souvenirs from this period include admission tickets for the Louisiana Purchase Exposition (St. Louis, 1904), de Forest's participant permit and admission tickets to the Panama Pacific International Exposition (San Francisco, 1915) as De Forest Radio Telephone & Telegraph Co. de Forest has also included multiple clippings from both American and French sources about World War I, and material from the American Defense League.
