Description
Photograph of the painting "Cupid Freezing" by Aubert, depicting Cupid and a woman warming themselves in the wilderness, [s.d.]. Both Cupid and the woman sit in profile, holding their hands over what appears to be a cauldron of hot coals. The woman is shrouded in a long wrap. Cupid wears a kerchief around his head and is otherwise naked. His bow and an arrow can be seen in the lower left corner, farther in the foreground. In the background, a blurry rendition of what appears to be winter forestland is visible. Picture file card reads: "Aubert entered the Ecole Des Beaux Arts, Paris in 1841. He became a private pupil of Delaroche, and then passed 5 years in Italian study. He has been an engraver, lithographer and painter, winning laurels and nettles in each".
