View of Hirschmanns Cut in the extreme northwestern corner of American Hill, Nevada County, northwest of Nevada City; shows pipe extending down cut hillside (right) and supported on timbers across the floor below the cliffs washed away from the hydraulic mining. Hydraulic mining was ruled illegal in 1884.
