Description
Annotation translation: [Text on the rear of the card]: "Missionary doctors, as well as ordinary missionaries, work among non-christians, for example among the cannibal Papuas of Kaiser-Wilhelm-Land. These superstitious heathens thought at first the missionaries were spirtis, and murdered two of them. But the tireless patience of these white men, and especially the love they showed in looking after these savages when they were sick, binding their wounds and giving them "good water", as they call medicines, and especially the way they looked after them when a smallpox epidemic was raging, gradually called forth a spirit of love and trust to the strangers in their hearts. And then, to their astonishment, the missionary doctor Frobenius put one of these savages in his own bed to care for him, and at that point all suspicion vanished, and they opened their ears and their hearts to the Gospel. And the missionaries can go into assemblies of armed warriors with no danger at all." - Probably from just before the First World War (PJ 07.2002).
