Description
Photograph of the Playa Del Rey Oil fields near Venice, in March 1930. Several oil derricks stand on the banks of a body of water that streams through center and winds left. One of these is situated at left, with a house-like structure built into its base, while three other stand at right, one with plumes of smoke spewing from the stacks in front of it. The water sits in the foreground, with the shoreline on both sides, and the background is composed of houses beneath utility poles. A line of such poles stands at center, with several lines draping several feet above the water.
