Description
Photograph of the outer court and the jail at Guajome Ranch in San Diego, 1870-1880. The courtyard is in the foreground and is an open dirt area devoid of vegetation. A dog is sleeping in the foreground at left. An adobe building forms a right angle in the background at center. The left side of the building has two glass windows and a ladder is leaning against the wall. The windows on the right side of the building are barred up. This part of the building was used as a jail because the rancho was a citadel that could withstand a siege.
