Description
HMong doll wearing wearing female clothing styles from Laos and Thailand. Her outfit is defined by a rounded headdress wrapped over the head in two separate layers, with the top layer being covered in embroidery and silver discs representing coins. She wears a plain black jacket with red trim on the sleeves and collar, and a long black skirt. An apron worn over the skirt and tied with green and pink belts around her waist is decorated with white, green, orange, and brown embroidery. She wears ornate silver necklances and earrings, and carries a basket of fruits in a woven basket in her right hand, and a fishing net in her left hand (the net is made from green, red, and yellow embroidery floss). Hanging sashes (draped over her pants and apron and tied behind the green and pink belts) display a band of ornate embroidery finished with long, hanging pink or red tassels, similar to clothing worn in the Luang Prabang provinve. The doll carries a carries a large woven basket filled with wood on her back. Originally identified as being a HMong woman from Luang Prabang, however clothing more closely resembles that worn by women in Laos and Thailand.
