Description
Contains an interview with two ex-hobos, Bill Raymond and Jim Elkin. The recording likely took place in either Vacaville or Davis, California, because there is discussion of Southern Pacific’s Winter Branch. The interview covers various topics, including avoiding special agents (Santa Fe at Barstow was notorious for being a difficult place to catch a freight), their dislike of hippies riding in the 1970s, lamenting deceased hobos, and nostalgia for the good old days on the road. They mention where they worked harvests and what areas were good to hobos (i.e. Miles City, Montana and Milwaukee Road at Avery, Idaho). Other places, such as Livingston, Montana, were not so good to them.
