Connie and Laurence begin the interview discussing how young people are going through puberty at earlier ages, and how that phenomenon may be due to both genetics and environment. They go on to discuss the extension of adolescence beyond traditional standards, and how self-control is important for young people’s success. They proceed to talk about why young people commit crimes and act out, and the different parenting styles that parents can utilize in raising their children, the preference being for authoritative parenting, overall. Connie and Laurence continue on to consider the young age of military members and how the United States has one of the highest drop-out rates for college students in the developed world before considering proper teaching methods for children. Connie closes the interview requesting an autograph for her copy of the book.
