A view of the green steel Schuyler Heim Bridge taken from a meridian divider in a side lane. Built in 1949, it is the largest vertical lift bridge on the West Coast. It is part of the Terminal Island Frwy, and connects State Route 47 to Route 103, Connecting Terminal Island to Long Beach. It spans the Cerritos Channel, which connects the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. Due to heavy truck traffic, proposals have been made to replace it with a standard high bridge.
